From Sports Fan to Entrepreneur: The Story Behind Sport Displays and the Jersey Mount
by Nyden Kovatchev on Aug 11, 2026
Some products begin with a business plan.
Others begin with a problem that somebody is determined to solve.
For me, Sport Displays is about much more than creating another sports product. It represents more than 25 years of entrepreneurship, sales, persistence, product development, learning from mistakes, taking chances and refusing to give up when an idea has potential.
And at the centre of it all is something I've always understood:
Sports fans don't just collect things. We collect memories.
A jersey isn't simply a piece of clothing.
It's the player you grew up watching. The team you watched with your father. The championship season you'll never forget. The first jersey you bought for your child. The autographed piece you've protected for years.
That emotional connection is ultimately what makes the Jersey Mount more than simply another way to decorate a wall.
I've Spent More Than 25 Years Learning What Makes People Buy
I've been an entrepreneur for more than 25 years.
That means I've experienced the exciting part of entrepreneurship — coming up with ideas, creating products, selling, building relationships and watching something grow.
I've also experienced the part that doesn't always make it into the highlight reel.
Rejection.
Mistakes.
Ideas that didn't work.
Sales calls that went nowhere.
Products that required adjustments.
Doors that closed.
And starting again when it would have been much easier to quit.
That experience has shaped how I approach Sport Displays today.
I don't believe successful products are simply about having a clever idea. They need to solve a problem, create value and give customers a reason to care.
For sports fans, the problem was surprisingly simple.
We own jerseys we love, but many of us have no great way to display them.
Why Are Our Favourite Jerseys Sitting in Closets?
Walk into the home of almost any serious sports fan and you'll probably find jerseys.
Some are hanging in closets.
Some are folded in drawers.
Some are packed away.
Some are autographed.
Some haven't been worn in years but could never be thrown away because of the memories attached to them.
And yet these jerseys can be some of the most visually interesting pieces of sports memorabilia we own.
That led to a simple question:
Why aren't we displaying them?
The traditional answer was often framing.
But not every sports fan wants to permanently frame every jersey they own.
Fans might want to wear that jersey again. They might want to rotate jerseys depending on the season, team or game. They might want to build an entire jersey wall without spending a fortune framing every piece.
That's where the idea behind the Sport Displays Jersey Mount becomes so powerful.
It allows the jersey itself to become the artwork.
Persistence Has Always Been Part of My Story
One of the biggest lessons entrepreneurship has taught me is that success rarely happens because everything goes according to plan.
Persistence matters.
I know that personally.
I auditioned for Dragon's Den seven times before finally getting onto the show.
Seven.
There were plenty of opportunities along the way to decide that maybe it wasn't going to happen.
But I've always believed that rejection doesn't necessarily mean an idea or entrepreneur isn't good enough.
Sometimes it simply means:
Not yet.
That experience became an important part of how I look at entrepreneurship, sales and Sport Displays.
You keep improving.
You keep pitching.
You keep learning.
You keep showing up.
Eventually, opportunities begin to appear that wouldn't have existed if you had stopped after the first rejection.
Sport Displays Is Really About the Fan
The best products aren't about the inventor.
They're about the person using them.
That's why when I look at a Jersey Mount, I don't just see a product.
I see somebody transforming an unfinished basement into the ultimate Toronto Maple Leafs room.
I see a father displaying the hockey jerseys his children wore growing up.
I see a collector turning ten jerseys into a personal sports museum.
I see a university student creating a sports wall in a dorm room.
I see a basketball fan displaying jerseys from Jordan, Kobe, LeBron or their favourite current stars.
I see someone taking a blank wall and turning it into a conversation.
Our Jersey Mount display system gives sports fans the ability to build displays using one jersey or create larger walls using multiple jerseys.
And because jerseys can remain accessible, fans don't necessarily have to choose between displaying their favourite jersey and wearing it.
Game night?
Take it down.
Wear it.
Then put it back on display.
That's how sports memorabilia should work.
Your Fan Cave Should Tell Your Story
I've never believed the best sports rooms are simply the ones with the most expensive memorabilia.
The best ones have meaning.
Maybe your wall starts with the first jersey your father gave you.
Then comes the jersey of the player who made you fall in love with the sport.
Next comes your child's minor hockey jersey.
Then the autographed jersey you saved up to purchase.
Put them together and you've created something far more interesting than decoration.
You've created your story.
That's what a great fan cave, sports room, office, basement or game room should do.
Building Sport Displays One Fan at a Time
After more than 25 years in business, I've learned that building something worthwhile rarely happens overnight.
You listen.
You improve.
You adapt.
You keep selling.
Most importantly, you remember who you're creating the product for.
Sport Displays exists for the people who love sports enough to remember exactly where they were when their team scored that goal, won that championship or drafted that player.
It exists for collectors.
Parents.
Athletes.
Kids.
Weekend warriors.
Die-hard fans.
And anybody who has ever looked at an empty wall and thought:
Something is missing here.
Maybe that something is already sitting in your closet.
If you've got jerseys that deserve to be seen, take a look at the Jersey Mount collection at Sport Displays and start creating your own sports wall.
Your jerseys already tell a story.
We just help you put that story on display.
